If you like to sew pretty designs on all kinds of items, then you’re in luck! Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection: 400+ Easy Embroidery Designs is filled with illustrations by Aimee Ray that are ideal for adorning your belongings, thereby transforming them into one-of-a-kind treasures. Aimee is also the author of Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners and has been a major contributor to the Pretty Little Series by Lark Crafts, who says about this new book, “Embroidery is perfect for toting along with you wherever your travels take you.” One of the most enjoyable aspects of embroidery is that you can put your designs on anything! With little more than a needle and thread, you can just go right to it and add a little whimsy to just about anything that is made of fabric.
The first section covers the basics of embroidery essentials, with how-tos on helps like transferring patterns, finishing your piece and a library of embroidery stitches. (Lark Crafts recommended this excellent video site for learning the basics about embroidery stitches.)
In Doodle Stitching there are seventeen projects for sewing fun motifs on all types of items, from linens to gift bags and tags, and many others. The author offers ways to embellish items that you already own, as well as projects that you create and then embroidery to add a special touch.
After the projects, the rest of the book is filled with pages of charming motifs that you can re-create, which are presented in groups like: Flowers, Sweet Shoppe, Circus, Baby and lots more adorable designs. They are each shown in full color to assist you in choosing colors. As a nice extra, there is also a CD included in the back of Doodle Stitching with black and white line drawing for each of the motifs. The CD allows for easy editing of the images, as well as the ability to enlarge or combine the patterns, so you can make it just the way that you want!
