review: creative quilting with beads
I have a major thing for quilts, I love to see the patterns and I enjoy picking out the ones I recognize. In Creative Quilting with Beads: 20+ Projects with Dimension, Sparkle & Shine, published by Lark Crafts and written by Valerie Van Arsdale Shrader, quilt designers have teamed up and produced a book filled with beautiful projects for making embellished beaded quilts. The twenty four projects in Creative Quilting with Beads, offer quilters the ability to embellish their designs with beads to make them even more gorgeous! And, if you are new to quilting, there are lots of how-to’s from piecing to hand-sewing to hanging quilts.
Each project has a picture of it completed, as well as close-up views to see the beads’ placement easier. I loved the “Broken Dishes” quilt, that not only uses the traditional broken dishes design, but also adds small pieces of broken china to give it extra character! And the “By The Sea” free form style quilt would make a stunning wall hanging with it beach colored fabrics and its use of shells and thread to evoke a calming beach scene. There’s even a gallery of beaded quilts in the back, which is a nice addition to the book. The lovely crafted projects in Creative Quilting with Beads include not only art quilts to hang, but also more usable items, like a card, magnets, book cover and more!
