I just love these cute little butterfly sugar cookies in their pretty, bright colors. And all you need to make them is a mini heart cookie cutter. They are from Land O’Lakes and are perfect for a garden party!

Butterfly Sugar Cookies

Cookie:

1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 Land O Lakes® All-Natural Egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pink, green and purple gel food colors
Decorations:
Sparkling decorator sugar
Assorted candies, such as licorice wheels, licorice pastels, chewy fruit-flavored jelly candies etc.

Combine butter and sugar in large bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Add egg, milk and almond extract; continue beating until well mixed. Reduce speed to low; add flour and baking powder. Beat until well mixed.

Divide dough into thirds; place each portion into separate small bowl. Tint each portion with desired gel food color.

Shape each dough into a ball; flatten to 1/2-inch thickness. Wrap each in plastic food wrap; refrigerate until firm (2 to 3 hours).

Heat oven to 400°F. Roll out dough, one-third at a time, on lightly floured surface (keeping remaining dough refrigerated) to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter.

To form butterflies, place 2 cookies with tips slightly overlapping onto ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with decorator sugar. Decorate as desired. Repeat with remaining cookies. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire cooling rack.
